"....sorry, I don't think I heard that right. You seriously want me to be an 'X-Man,' whatever that is? With a setup like this, and what I saw on the way over here, I'm guessing it's some kind of superhero team, and to be honest, I'm really more of a vigilante than a full hero... Then again, if I went up against this kind of thing alone, I'd be in way over my head." It was either go up against Vilain alone and get himself killed by a bunch of angry eldritch demigods, or join up with this team of theirs and at least have a fighting chance against whatever this is. The more he thought about it, the more his choice would be clear.
"Alright, I'm in. But I want to make one thing clear. If and when we find Vilain, I get first crack at him. I need to find out what he knows about me, Ayen. You have no idea what it's like not knowing your own past. It's kept me awake at night for years. If he's being difficult, or trying to act all mysterious and foreboding, or anything like that, I'll call for backup. Otherwise, he's mine. Are we clear on that?"

Ayen shrugged his shoulders.
"Fine by me. As long as the guy is stopped."
Ayen led Caine out of the sub-basement and back to the ground floor.
"I have some friends in journalism who could help us spread mutants awareness, but I'm afraid that would put a target on their backs. What do you think?"
